Introduction

Felix Romuliana was once a palace built for the Emperor Galerius that was situated in the Balkans of the Roman Empire. Today, it is an archeological site located in Gamzigrad, Serbia. Within this historical location, archeologists have found many statues and mosaics decorating the palace. One of which is a mosaic of the god Dionysos. It is the purpose of this article to exhibit how the god Dionysos affected Emperor Galerius’ culture and ideals, through the symbolism of the mosaic of Dionysos found in the triclinium of Felix Romuliana.
